Softball Recap: Gila Bend Comes Up Short

Gila Bend entered their contest against Ajo on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Gila Monsters took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-10 back in March.

Leila Martinez and Paityn Sly did some serious damage despite the final result: Martinez scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Sly scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Sly is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Gila Bend and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Ajo, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gila Bend will host Paradise Valley Christian Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ajo, they will face off against Berean Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
