Chugiak faced Bettye Davis East Anchorage in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Thunderbirds  a   10-0 shutout. Considering the Mustangs have won seven contests by more than five  runs this season, Thursday's  blowout was nothing new.
 Jack Carron made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound,   not allowing a single  earned run and  allowing only  one  hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Those  eight  strikeouts gave  him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box,  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances with one  stolen base, two  RBI,  and one  run.
 In other batting news, Chugiak let  Tyler Cage and  Cole Lux run wild. Cage  went 1-for-2 with one  stolen base, two  RBI,  and one  double, while  Lux  went 2-for-4 with two  runs, one  double,  and one  RBI. Chugiak is undefeated when  Lux posts two or  more  runs, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of  Owen Dockstader, who  went 1-for-3 with two  runs and one  RBI.
 Chugiak  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .562. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their  OBP total in three consecutive  matches.
Chugiak is  on a roll lately: they've  won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record  this season. Those  victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bettye Davis East Anchorage,  they are  on  a  ten-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 3-16.
 Looking ahead, Chugiak will welcome Eagle River  at 7:15  p.m.  on Friday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their  fifth straight  win, something the Mustangs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bettye Davis East Anchorage, they are taking a road trip to  take on Bartlett  at 6:30  p.m.  on Friday. The Thunderbirds are facing the Golden Bears at the right time seeing as the Golden Bears are stuck on  a  13-game losing streak.
