Baseball Recap: Peoria Notre Dame Takes a Loss

Peoria Notre Dame extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 11-15 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Normal West Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 on Wednesday.

Peoria Notre Dame saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lawson Alwan, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Normal West, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.7 runs.

On Normal West's side, Chase Reinhart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. Reinhart has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chase Knuth, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Peoria Notre Dame and Normal West should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Irish (ranked 247th) will meet Peoria (ranked 592nd) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Normal West will face off against Richwoods at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (92 vs. 202).
