The Martin Luther King Cougars will challenge the Tacony Academy Charter Lions at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Martin Luther King comes in on eight and Tacony Academy Charter on four.
While Martin Luther King's win against Roxborough wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 18-17 victory over the Wolves on Monday.
Justin Reynolds made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Reynolds was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Reynolds is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ishmail Crawford-Mathis, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matthew Scott, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Tacony Academy Charter posted their closest win since May 6, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past George Washington 8-7.
Tacony Academy Charter pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Martin Luther King, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
