Basketball Recap: Alief Taylor Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Brent Johnson and Sean Kongolo

Alief Taylor lost against Fort Bend Hightower back in February of 2016, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Alief Taylor Lions took a 59-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1005th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 190th).

Alief Taylor's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Sean Kongolo, who posted 16 points and six boards, and Brent Johnson, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 13 points. Johnson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Jineti Gure was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Alief Taylor has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Fort Bend Hightower, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Alief Taylor will welcome Almeta Crawford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Bend Hightower, they will head out to face off against Yates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yates knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Fort Bend Hightower likes a good challenge.
