Softball Recap: ITW David Speer Academy's Undefeated Season over After Four Games

If ITW David Speer Academy was feeling good fresh off their 19-3 takedown of Walther Christian Academy last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. ITW David Speer Academy fell just short of the DeKalb Barbs by a score of 18-17 on Friday. The loss was the Pride's first of the season.

Miabella Collazo stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Estela Garcia also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Collazo wasn't the only one working in the hit department: ITW David Speer Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, ITW David Speer Academy fell to 3-1. As for DeKalb, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Coming up, ITW David Speer Academy will take on Lexington at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for DeKalb, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Sycamore at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
