Preview: Davie War Eagles vs. Parkland Mustangs
The Davie War Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Parkland Mustangs at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Davie's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
Davie pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Forsyth. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (56), Davie still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jackson Powers, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. He hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for three straight games. Ethan Ratledge was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Parkland had to settle for a 53-51 loss against Reagan on Tuesday. Parkland has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Parkland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of SaMaurie Moses, who scored 14 points along with three steals, and Joshua Moore who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Moore has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brock Jackson, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Davie's defeat dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Parkland, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.
Friday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Davie have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 48% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Parkland struggles in that department as they've made 42% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Davie beat Parkland 72-64 when the teams last played back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Jackson, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Davie still be able to contain Jackson? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
