Basketball Recap: Central Comes Up Short

Central lost against Santana back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Central Spartans were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Santana Sultans. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Central lost, don't look at Daimaggio Wyatt. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 42.2% of Central's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was David Lopez, who put up 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since the start of last season.

It was another big night for Dain Diaz, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 16 rebounds for Santana. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Miller, who had nine points.

Central's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5. As for Santana, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-5.

Central and West Hills will round out the year against one another at at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Central is facing West Hills at the right time seeing as West Hills is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Santana, they will take on Point Loma at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Point Loma's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games.
