Volleyball Recap: New Haven Takes a Loss

New Haven lost against Leopold back in September of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Shamrocks fell 2-0 to the Wildcats.

New Haven may have fallen short, but they were sure consistent: they scored 12 points in every single set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-12, 25-12.

Emme Bates paced New Haven's offense, picking up two kills. Bates got some help from Hannah Schneider and her three assists. Schneider also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Hannah Knight, racking up two apiece.

Among those leading the charge was Malia VanderMierden, who had 13 digs and three assists. She has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times she's played. Jocelyn Vandeven also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

New Haven has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-11-2 record this season. As for Leopold, they pushed their record up to 12-1-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, New Haven and Leopold will both be playing Bowling Green the next time they take the court. The Shamrocks will host the Bobcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Wildcats will play them later in the day, at 4:00 p.m.
