Softball Game Preview: Maumee Panthers vs. Springfield Blue Devils

Maumee hasn't had much luck against Springfield recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Maumee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Maumee didn't have quite enough to beat Eastwood and fell 6-5. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hannah Ruiz put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Autumn Gugger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Taylor Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Springfield had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Northview on Monday as they made off with a 13-3 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Maumee, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.

Maumee suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Springfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
