Baseball Recap: Overton's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Overton dropped their record down to 12-5-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 16-6 to the Southwind Jaguars. The Wolverines were not able to make up for their defeat to the Jaguars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Antwan Hooker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sammy Kehrli, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

As for Southwind, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Southwind's side, Christian Coleman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Coleman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Muhammad Diallo was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrez Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Coincidentally, Overton and Southwind will both be playing Memphis Central the next time they take the field. The Jaguars will host the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Wolverines will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
