Basketball Game Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. Monacan Chiefs

Powhatan is 0-10 against Monacan since January of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Powhatan Indians will face off against the Monacan Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Powhatan came up into this matchup off a tough 31-point loss on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Clover Hill by a score of 54-51 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Indians have suffered since January 21st.

Meanwhile, Monacan suffered their biggest loss since January 13th on Thursday. They were outmatched by L.C. Bird and fell 55-28. The Chiefs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-11.

Monacan's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Powhatan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-8.

Powhatan couldn't quite finish off Monacan in their previous matchup back in January and fell 60-57. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Monacan's Lila Donnelly, who posted 34 points and six steals.
