Basketball Game Preview: Beaufort Eagles vs. Hilton Head Island Seahawks

The Beaufort Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Hilton Head Island Seahawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Beaufort will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating May River, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Everything went Beaufort's way against May River on Friday as Beaufort made off with a 56-34 victory. The Eagles pushed the score to 43-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Sharks cut but never quite recovered from.

Zaria Coaxum and Jania Hayward were among the main playmakers for Beaufort as the former posted 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals and the latter had 12 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Crosby, who earned four points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hilton Head Island). They blew past Colleton County 53-31 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Seahawks have posted since January 19, 2024.

Beaufort is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 9.54 assists in those games compared to only 9.54 in the others. As for Hilton Head Island, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-12.

Beaufort ended up a good deal behind Hilton Head Island when the teams last played back in February of 2022, losing 48-34. Can Beaufort avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
