Preview: Maplewood Rockets vs. Mathews Mustangs
Maplewood is 0-10 against Mathews since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Maplewood Rockets will be staying on the road to face off against the Mathews Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Maplewood had to suffer through a rough 79-39 loss at the hands of Bristol. While losing is never fun, Maplewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 755th, while Bristol is ranked 264th).
Despite the loss, Maplewood saw an underclassman step up: Brighton Roper scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Roper has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Mathews' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Grand Valley 55-51.
Maplewood's loss dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Mathews, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season.
Maplewood couldn't quite finish off Mathews when the teams last played back in January and fell 66-64. Can Maplewood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
