Softball Recap: San Leandro Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for San Leandro, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Mt. Eden Monarchs on Friday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by seven runs or more this season.

Julianna Morales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Marley Santos, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Jade Orta was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

San Leandro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Eden only posted an OBP of .400.

San Leandro's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Eden, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

San Leandro wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-4 loss against Arroyo on the 7th. As for Mt. Eden, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Berkeley on the 7th.
