Basketball Recap: Red Mountain Piles Up the Points Against Westwood

Red Mountain won the last time they faced Westwood and things went their way on Friday too. The Red Mountain Mountain Lions breezed by the Westwood Warriors to the tune of 68-27. Given the Mountain Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Warriors are ranked 249th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Red Mountain found their leader in sophomore Travon Darby, who went 7 of 11 en route to 16 points and three steals. Darby's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Viktor Johannsson, who posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Red Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westwood only pulled down five offensive boards.

Westwood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Krew Brinkerhoff, who earned six points.

Red Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Westwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.

Red Mountain will head out to face off against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Red Mountain has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Westwood has already played their next contest (against Mountain View), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
