Softball Recap: Myrtle Beach Drops Season-High Score on Ketchikan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Myrtle Beach). They walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Ketchikan Kings on Saturday. For the Seahawks, this counts as revenge for the 11-9 win the Kings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2022.

Lilly Langway was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madalyn Thompson, who scored five runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Shianne Needle was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.

Myrtle Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Myrtle Beach pushed their record up to 4-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Ketchikan, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Myrtle Beach will challenge Carolina Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Seahawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Ketchikan, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Colony at 12:00 p.m. on the 24th.
