Softball Game Preview: Hopkins Royals vs. Edina Hornets

The Hopkins Royals will face off against the Edina Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Edina took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Hopkins, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Hopkins narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Wayzata 4-3.

Meanwhile, Edina came up short against St. Michael-Albertville on Monday and fell 7-4. The loss continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost eight in a row.

Ella Meyer was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Meyer was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meyer wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cora ZumBrunnen, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Edina's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hopkins, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Hopkins couldn't quite get it done against Edina when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
