Anthony Wayne has gone a perfect 10-0 against Springfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Generals will look to defend their home field against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Anthony Wayne took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Swanton 7-5.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Springfield). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Waite a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. With that win, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Cale Whitmire and Blake Young made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Whitmire tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Young pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Springfield is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-10 otherwise. At bat, Whitmire got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Young went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Young has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Max Sherrick was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Falls, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Anthony Wayne's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Springfield, their victory bumped their record up to 6-11.
Anthony Wayne beat Springfield 8-4 in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Do the Generals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
