Softball Recap: Marquette Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Marquette had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Forreston Cardinals as they made off with an 18-0 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Crusaders also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2023.

Lily Brewer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Hunter Hopkins was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Taylor Cuchra was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Marquette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. The last time their batting average was this high was was before the start of last season.

Marquette's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Forreston, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-27.

Marquette does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Forreston, they will challenge Durand at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
