Softball Game Preview: Symmes Valley Vikings vs. South Point Pointers

The Symmes Valley Vikings will square off against the South Point Pointers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Symmes Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so South Point's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Symmes Valley is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Cabell Midland just ended the team's 16-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 5-0 to the Knights. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, South Point beat Portsmouth 8-3 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Pointers in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won four in a row.

Kota Copley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Copley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Stidham, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Adyson Copley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Symmes Valley's loss dropped their record down to 21-3. As for South Point, their victory bumped their record up to 18-7.

Symmes Valley got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April against South Point by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Pointers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
