Baseball Recap: Wilmot Comes Up Short

Wilmot was the 6-1 winner over Zion-Benton when they last played one another back in April of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Panthers fell just short of the Zee-Bees by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Panthers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Wilmot got a good showing from Adymn Bergum, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The Panthers are 2-1 when Bergum allows two or fewer earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Chance Ruby was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Wilmot's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Zion-Benton, the win snapped their losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 3-12 record.

Looking ahead, Wilmot will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Delavan-Darien at 11:00 a.m. As for Zion-Benton, they will welcome Lake Zurich at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
