Baseball Recap: Ponca City Takes a Loss

Ponca City fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Jenks on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since March 1st.

Kalon Covey was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Ponca City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 4-16 when he doesn't). Blake Orozco also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Ponca City has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season. As for Jenks, they moved to 13-13 with that win, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

While Ponca City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
