Basketball Recap: Monessen Greyhounds vs. West Greene Pioneers

Even though the West Greene Pioneers scored an imposing 55 points on Friday, the Monessen Greyhounds still came out on top. Monessen walked away with a 66-55 victory over the Pioneers. The win made it back-to-back wins for Monessen.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Matthew Wassil, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Wassil is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lane Allison, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds.

Monessen's win bumped their record up to 15-3. As for West Greene, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.

Monessen won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Raiders at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Riverview is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for West Greene, they will be playing at home against the Rockets at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Pennsylvania (Jefferson-Morgan is ranked 524th, while the Pioneers are ranked 544th).
