Recap: Maywood Academy Nighthawks vs. Mendez Jaguars
The Maywood Academy Nighthawks's five-game losing streak came to an end on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Mendez and snuck past 49-46. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Maywood Academy also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Leading Maywood Academy to victory were Edinson Castaneda and Rodrigo Miranda . Castaneda scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Miranda dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 assists. The matchup was Castaneda 's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Fernando Payan was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Maywood Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Mendez, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Maywood Academy will head out on the road to face off against Sierra Vista at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mendez, they will be playing at home against Huntington Park at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntington Park is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
