Recap: Rising Sun Shiners vs. South Ripley Raiders
The Rising Sun Shiners lost against the South Ripley Raiders back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Rising Sun took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Ripley.
Despite the defeat, Rising Sun saw an underclassman step up: Jaylen Peelman scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Simpson, who scored ten points.
South Ripley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lydia Cornett led the charge by scoring 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cornett has scored all season. Reese Obendorf was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Rising Sun's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for South Ripley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rising Sun will challenge Trinity Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Trinity Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. South Ripley will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Oldenburg Academy at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. Oldenburg Academy will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
