Baseball Recap: Paoli Starts Season with Victory Against Shoals

Paoli gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Shoals Jug Rox a 17-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Jug Rox: they've now won five in a row.

Austin Chastain made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chastain was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Paoli let Cooper Spires and Kirkland Hughes run wild. Spires scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Hughes scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. That's the most hits Spires has posted since back in April of 2024. Peyton Baker was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Paoli is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on West Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The game will give the Rams their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Shoals, they will head out on the road to challenge Bloomfield at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
