Basketball Recap: Make It Nine in a Row for Williamsport

Williamsport waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 78-73 W against the North Hagerstown Hubs. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Williamsport's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jahmeir Byrd, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards. Byrd's big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ceonta Wilmore, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

Several Hubs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joey Dorsey, who posted 27 points and six boards. With that strong performance, Dorsey is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Landon Somerville was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Williamsport pushed their record up to 19-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.5 points over those games. As for North Hagerstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-7.

Williamsport wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-56 win against Boonsboro on the 25th. As for North Hagerstown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-61 victory against Urbana on the 25th.
