Baseball Recap: Nicholas County's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Walton-Verona, Nicholas County was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They never let the Newport Wildcats get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. With that win, the Bluejackets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Chandler Kenney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Ethan Ritchie was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Brady Greene, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Nicholas County's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Newport, they are on a 30-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Nicholas County will venture away from home to square off against Bath County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport, they will challenge Robertson County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Robertson County has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.75 runs per game on average), something Newport will no doubt try to take advantage of.
