Basketball Game Preview: Maui Sabers vs. Kamehameha Maui Warriors

Having just played yesterday, the Maui Sabers will jump right back in to play the Kamehameha Maui Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Maui has 13 straight victories, Kamehameha Maui has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

On Monday, Maui took their matchup with ease, bagging a 53-22 win over Baldwin. The Sabers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Naiara Bal and Kyra Okuyama were among the main playmakers for Maui as the former went 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals and the latter posted 13 points. Bal is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Alayna Borden was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Maui smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Kamehameha Maui faced Maui in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Kamehameha Maui took a 52-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Maui.

Maui pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.2 points per game. As for Kamehameha Maui, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
