Soccer Game Preview: Monterey vs. Gonzales

The Monterey Dores will square off against the Gonzales Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Monterey is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Monterey who was credited with the victory. Monterey got it done in the shootout by posting three goals to Salinas' one. Even though the Dores got in a bit of trouble with the refs ( Johnathan Moncada Jimenez was handed a red card), the team managed to overcome the adversity.

Monterey's one-goal win came courtesy of Ethan Bonilla, who's now up to 20 this season.

Monterey will be up against a hot Gonzales team: the squad just extended their winning streak to nine. Gonzales walked away with a 3-1 win over King City on Saturday.

Gonzales pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 26 goals over those eight matchups. As for Monterey, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-6.

Monterey might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Gonzales in their previous matchup back in January of 2020. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Monterey was down 4-1.
