Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Maddox Palmer and David Sanchez Barrera Lead Ponte Vedra to Victory

Ponte Vedra won the last time they faced Bishop Snyder and things went their way on Saturday too. The Ponte Vedra Sharks took down the Bishop Snyder Cardinals 65-51. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while the Cardinals are ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Ponte Vedra to victory were David Sanchez Barrera and Maddox Palmer. Sanchez Barrera went 6 for 9 en route to 18 points along with eight steals and five assists, while Palmer almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Sanchez Barrera a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Trace Westercamp, who posted nine points and seven blocks.

Ponte Vedra has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Bishop Snyder, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.

Ponte Vedra will take on Oakleaf at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Oakleaf knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten contests -- so hopefully Ponte Vedra likes a good challenge. As for Bishop Snyder, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Bishop Snyder Cardinals face off against the Impact Christian Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
