Baseball Recap: Garden Spot Wins Going Away Against Warwick

After losing to Warwick the last time they met, Garden Spot decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Warriors on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ryder Hertzler was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Brody Torrance was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zander Clymer, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Garden Spot kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Garden Spot and bumps their season record up to 8-9. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Warwick, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garden Spot will venture away from home to square off against Eastern Lebanon County at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Warwick, they will head out to challenge Conestoga Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
