Recap: Hickory Grove Christian Lions vs. Asheville School (Independent) Blues
The Hickory Grove Christian Lions lost against the Asheville School (Independent) Blues back in October of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Hickory Grove Christian was beaten by Asheville School (Independent) 55-12. Hickory Grove Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-12.
Hickory Grove Christian's loss came despite strong showings from Anthony Hawkins and Gavin Thompson. Hawkins rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown, while Thompson rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Leading Asheville School (Independent) to victory were Caleb Jenkins and Ricky Tolbert. Jenkins rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns, while Tolbert rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Jenkins is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
This is the second loss in a row for Hickory Grove Christian and nudges their season record down to 8-2. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 High Point Christian Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.3% over those games). As for Asheville School (Independent), the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.
Hickory Grove Christian will head out on the road to face off against Covenant Day at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Asheville School (Independent) does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
