Football Game Preview: Mater Lakes Academy Bears vs. Central Rockets

The Mater Lakes Academy Bears will take on the Central Rockets at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mater Lakes Academy's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Hialeah Educational Academy 33-0. The final result isn't all the surprising considering the Bears' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Biggie are ranked 359th).

Among those leading the charge was Valentina Builes, who threw for 167 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 84.6% of her passes. What's more, she racked up 132.2 passer rating, the most she's had since back in February.

Central never got on the board in their matchup back in March, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Jackson back in March. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Generals 33-0. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won four in a row.

Mater Lakes Academy better keep an eye on Charlondra Victor. She was instrumental in Central's win, rushing for 60 yards and two TDs on only seven carries.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Central's defense and their four sacks. Tmani Cage refused to say out of the backfield, picking up three sacks all by herself.

Mater Lakes Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.4 points on average over those games. As for Central, their record now sits at 4-5.
