Football Recap: Flagler Palm Coast Bulldogs vs. Spruce Creek Hawks
Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Flagler Palm Coast couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 36-35 to the Spruce Creek Hawks. It was the first time this season that the Bulldogs let down their fans at home.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden Hayes, who threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75.9% of his passes, and also rushed for 51 yards. Marcus Mitchell was another key rusher, gaining 113 total yards and three touchdowns.
Spruce Creek found their leader in sophomore Pj Miller, who threw for 219 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 37 yards. Another player making a difference was Anthony Hayden, who gained 116 total yards and a touchdown.
Flagler Palm Coast's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-2. As for Spruce Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
