Baseball Recap: Thoreau Takes a Loss

Thoreau extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 5-11. They came up short against the Navajo Prep Fighting Eagles, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Thursday.

As for Navajo Prep, they pushed their record up to 11-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Navajo Prep's part, Khol Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Navajo Prep let Tecai Pahe and Koltyn Holyan run wild. Pahe went a perfect 1-for-1 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Holyan went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Navajo Prep is undefeated when Pahe posts two or more stolen bases, but 7-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Liam Begay, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.

Thoreau didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-0 defeat against Tohatchi on the 27th. As for Navajo Prep, they will welcome Zuni at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
