Softball Recap: Northside Vikings vs. Franklin County Eagles
Northside extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They lost 7-0 to the Franklin County Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 last Tuesday.
As for Franklin County, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-3. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.
For Franklin County's part, Brooke Weaver was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Weaver has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Becca Merrick, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. Madison Ingram was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Northside is taking a road trip to face off against Fleming at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Franklin County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
