Baseball Game Preview: Oak Grove Warriors vs. Hillsboro Hawks

The Oak Grove Warriors will face off against the Hillsboro Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Oak Grove is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Meridian a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for the Warriors as they're now sitting on five straight.

Maddox Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kendrell Roberts was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eric Booth Jr, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Hillsboro's hitters rose to the challenge against a Raiders pitching crew that boasted an average of only four runs allowed on Tuesday. Hillsboro put the hurt on North County with a sharp 13-3 win. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Jackson Marks was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Max Partney was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Oak Grove's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hillsboro, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
