Softball Recap: Webb Spartans vs. Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish
Webb extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Knoxville Catholic Fighting Irish, falling 13-4. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fighting Irish apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Jeneva Mitchell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Terralyn Hill also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
As for Knoxville Catholic, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 14-10. Considering they have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Knoxville Catholic's side, Caitlin Brooks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 16 Ks. Brooks has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Claudia Schaad, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Gracie Eunice was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Webb will head out to challenge West at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Knoxville Catholic, they will face off against First Baptist Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
