Softball Recap: Auburn Comes Up Short

Auburn extended their losing streak to 11 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Mt. Rainier Rams. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on Wednesday.

As for Mt. Rainier, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5. Considering they have won three games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Mt. Rainier's part, Kadence Avila Petitt made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Avila Petitt has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall Parker, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Miley Garrison, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Auburn will host South Whidbey at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for Mt. Rainier, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennedy Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
