Baseball Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. Terra Nova Tigers

For the second straight game, San Mateo will face off against Terra Nova. The Bearcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

It was a proper cat-fight when San Mateo duked it out with Terra Nova on Tuesday. The Bearcats took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers.

For Terra Nova's part, Aiden James spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, Luke Ornelas was a standout: he got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Joey Donati, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Terra Nova was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Terra Nova, bringing their record up to 16-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for San Mateo, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.
