Recap: Penn Hills Indians vs. Armstrong River Hawks
There's no place like home for the Penn Hills Indians, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Tuesday. They greeted the New Year with with a 66-47 victory over Armstrong. That's another feather in the cap for Penn Hills, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
When it comes to explaining why Armstrong lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Jack Valasek. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. Valasek scored a full 34% of Armstrong's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Riggle, who scored ten points.
Penn Hills pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Armstrong, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Penn Hills won't have much time to rest: their next game is against North Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on January 6th. North Catholic knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully Penn Hills likes a good challenge. As for Armstrong, they will head out on the road to face off against Fox Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fox Chapel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
