Baseball Recap: Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran dropped their record down to 12-11 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They lost 10-4 to the Carroll Chargers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cadets of the 23-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Carroll, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-13. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Carroll's part, Kyle Young looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Young has become a key player for the Chargers: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 11-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Carroll let Jaxon Sparks and Eric Tratnyek run wild. Sparks went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Tratnyek got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Sparks is becoming a predictor of Carroll's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 8-13 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Zavier Edgar, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran and Carroll are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cadets will challenge Angola at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Carroll, they will face off against Fort Wayne Snider at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
