Basketball Recap: Madison County Comes Up Short

Madison County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 51-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Page County Panthers. The Mountaineers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 38-35.

Despite the defeat, Madison County saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gracie Woodward dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for Woodward. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Thompson, who posted three points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Even though they lost, Madison County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Madison County's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Page County, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
