Basketball Recap: Gavin Shonk's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Heritage Christian over Indianapolis Arsenal Technical

Heritage Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indianapolis Arsenal Technical Titans. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2018.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Shonk, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Arterburn, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Heritage Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Indianapolis Arsenal Technical was led to victory by James Townsend and Elias Trotter. Townsend went 6 of 10 en route to 17 points, while Trotter went 6 for 7 on his way to 16 points and three steals. Trotter continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. TJ Washington was another key player, putting up eight points and six assists.

Heritage Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Indianapolis Arsenal Technical, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.

Heritage Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 64-55 defeat against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter on the 31st. Indianapolis Arsenal Technical has also already played their next contest, a 97-57 loss against Indianapolis Crispus Attucks on the 23rd.
