Softball Preview: Shoemaker Wolves vs. University Trojans

Shoemaker is 3-0 against University since March of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Shoemaker Wolves will head out on the road to take on the University Trojans at 6:30 p.m. Shoemaker knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy run totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully University likes a good challenge.

Shoemaker stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Chaparral.

Kylee Czaplicki made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Czaplicki has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Czaplicki was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Taylor Mcclinton was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jaden Crenshaw, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Meanwhile, University fell victim to Lake Belton and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 8-0 walloping at the hands of the Broncos. Having soared to a lofty 26 runs in the game before, University's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Shoemaker has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6-2 record this season. As for University, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Everything went Shoemaker's way against University in their previous matchup on March 5th as Shoemaker made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Shoemaker since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
