Softball Recap: Cheraw Braves vs. North Central Knights

Cheraw extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Friday, dropping them down to 0-12. They fell 5-1 to the North Central Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 back in March.

As for North Central, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

For North Central's part, Mackenzie Melton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Melton has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brooke Coates was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
