Basketball Recap: Portal Drops Season-High Score on Metter

Portal scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell to the Metter Tigers 64-58. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

Despite the defeat, Portal saw an underclassman step up: sophomore London Blackmon dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Blackmon has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Millie Kingsberry, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Portal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Portal now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Metter, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.

Portal will face off against Savannah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Metter, they will be playing at home against Emanuel County Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
