Preview: Fleming Island Golden Eagles vs. Bolles Bulldogs

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Bolles Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Fleming Island focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday.

Fleming Island had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 79-70 win over Clay. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

It was another big night for Carson Crawford, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was George Hamm, who scored 18 points.

Meanwhile, Bolles came up short against Tocoi Creek on Monday and fell 63-53.

Despite the defeat, Bolles had strong showings from Simeon Caldwell, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds, and Kaden Ferguson, who scored 16 points along with five assists. Caldwell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Olunuga, who scored eight points.

The win got Fleming Island back to even at 10-10. As for Bolles, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season.

Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Fleming Island have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.7 threes per game. It's a different story for Bolles, though, as they've been averaging only 7.2 threes per game. Given Fleming Island's sizeable advantage in that area, Bolles will need to find a way to close that gap.

Everything went Fleming Island's way against Bolles in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as Fleming Island made off with a 62-39 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fleming Island since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
